Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind comes to the big screen at Centro Pecci Cinema on Sunday 8 November at 10:30 am, as part of the Animiamoci film series. Screened in Italian.
A millennium has passed since a series of wars, culminating in the thermonuclear explosions of the Seven Days of Fire, altered the global ecosystem. The Sea of Ruin has expanded dramatically, occupying human kingdoms and invading the Earth with its giant insects and poisonous spores. Only a few territories remain unscathed, but their inhabitants continue to fight among themselves. In a neutral and peaceful kingdom, the Valley of the Wind, lives Princess Nausicaa, gifted with an extrasensory power that allows her to communicate with animals and the fearsome Ohm insects. Nausicaa is convinced that the solution lies not in attacking the insects, but in understanding the secret underlying the Sea of Ruin.
Although technically the film is not yet a production of the studio, but a work distributed by Toei, Nausicaa is unanimously considered the founding work of the film company (it is in fact included in all retrospective DVDs) and of Miyazaki-thought, the philosophy that changed the world of animation forever.
