On the eve of her grand comeback, iconic pop star Mother Mary reunites with Sam, her former best friend and costume designer, now an accomplished fashion designer, to ask her to design her a new dress. Their encounter will reopen the door to strong, unresolved feelings, wounds, and tensions. Oscar winner Anne Hathaway, alongside a stunning Michaela Coel, pours her heart and soul into a powerful and visceral story, an emotional and visually stunning journey to the heart of the intertwining of creativity and relationships, crafted by cult director David Lowery (The Green Knight, A Ghost Story). Original music by Charli XCX, Jack Antonoff, and FKA Twigs.

Somehow, one can still glimpse a persistent flirtation with horror, a constant presence in his filmography: still part of the A24 brand, of course, but he is undoubtedly the auteur among their ranks who has managed to establish himself most comfortably on the border. Perhaps it's not his intention, perhaps his cinema is already scary in itself because of the questions it forces us to ask, and perhaps the nature of the images is merely a consequence of this, and crossing that boundary would mean trivializing. Lowery has already demonstrated his ability to inscribe his symbolic imagery within a contemporary time frame in A Ghost Story. But the point of interest, this time, is his gaze on religion, in whatever form it takes. As mentioned, his cinema has always been sacred in some ways, and the supernatural, the indecipherable has always played a central role in its thematic implications. (Tommaso Giobbi)
