Amarga Navidad by Pedro Almodovar
Amarga Navidad by Pedro Almodovar

Raul is a director in his fifties who hasn't made a film for five years due to a lack of inspiration. He begins writing a new screenplay just when Monica, his first reader, who has been with him for twenty years, quits her job to join her partner in dire straits, and entrusts him to the loving care of Santi, Raul's partner, 15 years younger.

Pedro Almodóvar creates the counterpoint to Pain and Glory. He reflects on himself through cinema, filming a visceral experience, laying himself bare before the viewer. Always on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

Amarga Navidad is part of the genre of films that chronicle the creative crisis of a director ready to vampirize his real life, especially 8 ½, and the director in question is Pedro Almodóvar, who, as always, catapults us into his colorful, hyperrealist world.
