This is the first solo exhibition by Alex Ayed (Strasbourg, 1989) in an Italian institution. He is one of the emerging figures in Mediterranean art. His work is notable for its precise intertwining of intimate and social themes through the combination of precious materials and recycled elements. In his projects, Ayed evokes ancestral forms of coexistence that are rarely featured in exhibitions, combining a sensitivity to detail with an ability to respect the needs of each material he selects.

For the Centro Pecci exhibition, Ayed produced a series of works designed specifically for the institution's spaces. He investigated the potential of craft practices linked to the production of luxury goods. He created these pieces after a solo sailing trip from Sweden to Tunisia, passing along the coasts of Spain, France, and Italy.

The sea, with its ever-changing light, living and nonliving presences, and the organic and inorganic materials crossing it, as well as life marked by the demands of navigation, serves as the reference context for his current research phase.

Ayed reconnects with the Mediterranean by presenting an exhibition ecosystem alternating between impactful and minimalist works. Reflecting on ancient production traditions, such as color, allows him to explore the relationship between a territory's past and present.

This exhibition is part of Passaggi: di mano in mano, the Centro Pecci’s 2026 cultural programme. Discover the programme ↗
