As part of the seventh edition of the Festa della Via della Lana e della Seta, on Sunday, June 29 at 6:30 PM, Mulino Saetti in Montepiano will host a special event with Franco Arminio – poet, writer, filmmaker, and “paesologist.”

With his passionate perspective on Italy’s small towns, Arminio will present “For a New Humanism of the Mountains”, a reflection on the human, cultural, and environmental value of inland areas. The event is organized by the Municipality of Vernio, Centro per l’arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci, and Pecci Books, and is part of a summer tour that will bring him to many Italian villages.

“For years, Arminio has been ‘navigating through words and landscapes,’ as he says, leading a civic campaign for areas like ours – fragile but rich in heritage, nature, and resilient communities,” says Maria Lucarini, Mayor of Vernio. “We’re thrilled to welcome him to Montepiano – it will be an unforgettable afternoon.”

Set in the enchanting garden of Mulino Saetti, where nature and artistic inspiration meet, Arminio will share his thoughts, stories, and poetry. As he puts it, “poetry is a beautiful place to be together.”

Franco Arminio was born and lives in Bisaccia, in Eastern Irpinia. He is the author of several acclaimed books, including A Sorrowful Geography of Inland Italy (2013), Yield the Road to the Trees (2017), and the recent Caraluce. Atlas of Invisible Towns (2025). He founded the House of Paesology and has directed the Moon and the Gullies festival in Aliano for over a decade. He also hosts the RAI 3 television program The Library of Feelings (2024/25 season).

The event is part of Books
