Andy Warhol, Aleksandra Mir, Vito Acconci, Sol LeWitt, Anish Kapoor, Mario Merz, Jannis Kounellis, VALIE EXPORT, Bruno Munari, Massimo Bartolini, Thomas Hirschhorn, Jan Fabre: these are just a few of the great contemporary artists in the collection of Centro Pecci.

Our collection includes over 1000 works by more than 300 artists: sculptures, installations, environments, paintings and videos made from the 1950s to the present, mostly acquired as the result of exhibitions.

The sections on Arte Povera and the Italian and international Transavanguardia are particularly thorough, as are those on the artists of the former Soviet block and on art photography.

There are also large portions devoted to Radical architecture, art cinema in Tuscany from 1964 to 1980, and artists’ books.

Specific bodies of works come from acquisitions of the Friends of the Centro Pecci and the Cassa di Risparmio Foundation of Prato.  Several recent Italian and European pieces of artwork have been purchased by the Friends of the Museum and the Cassa di Risparmio Bank Foundation of Prato. Others come from the private collection of the Prato family Beccaglia. The collection also includes a vast body of works and projects of Concrete Poetry, Visual Poetry, visual experiences of musicians and performers donated by the Prato merchant Carlo Palli. Moreover, specific sets of works have been donated by the family of the visual poet Luciano Ori and come from the archives of the Florentine artist Mario Mariotti and from the deposit of works of the modernist architect Leonardo Savioli and his wife, the artist Flora Weichmann, donated to the Regione Toscana along with his studio.

Since 2015, the collection also includes a large bequest of paintings and photographs from the collection of Alessandro Grassi, focusing on Italian and international artistic research of the 1980s and 1990s.
