The sudden news of the passing of engineer Federico Mazzoni has come as a shock.

A highly respected professional, he was well known also for his role as President of the ACI of Prato, for which he organized the arrival in the city of a Mille Miglia stage in 2021, coinciding with the inauguration of the relocation of Fausto Melotti’s sculpture Le Pleiadi in front of the Centro Pecci.

Just a few days ago, on November 6, he was present at the inauguration of another artwork in the museum’s garden: the monumental sculpture Prato 88 by Mauro Staccioli, which he personally helped reinstall as operational director and executive coordinator. It was a true “enterprise”, years in the making, supported by the Municipality and strongly desired by the entire city, with the aim of restoring a monumental work — a landmark of Prato and of its cultural development.

Mazzoni had not only the expertise but also the sensitivity needed to complete this effort. He had known the artist Staccioli and had followed the original construction work in 1988, alongside his uncle, the engineer who led the building site of the new Gamberini museum. Above all, he was a person of elegance in appearance and manner, attentive and precise in his work.

The Fondazione per le arti contemporanee in Toscana expresses its condolences to the Mazzoni family and extends its sincere gratitude to engineer Federico for his valuable contribution to the growth of Prato.
