The Centro Pecci bids farewell to Amnon Barzel (1935–2025), the institution’s inaugural director from 1988 to 1992.
Barzel contributed to the planning of the Centro Pecci during its construction years, imprinting on the museum his interdisciplinary, international vision deeply connected with the Tuscan and Prato area. Through educational and musical activities, he made the Centro Pecci a leading point of reference on the international stage.
During his tenure, major international artists as well as a new generation of Italian artists exhibited in the museum’s galleries, making the Centro Pecci’s programming and collection unique in Italy.
With Barzel’s passing, the Centro Pecci loses a key figure in its history, in the history of Italian institutions, and in the city of Prato.
