The Centro Pecci commemorates Alessandro Bertini, who served as President of the institution from 1993 to 1995, during the directorships of Ida Panicelli and Antonella Soldaini. He understood the importance of fostering connections between different art forms, and he supported the programmes of both artistic directions, which had a significant impact on the activities of the Centro Pecci. This is evidenced by exhibitions dedicated to photographer Robert Mapplethorpe and filmmaker Federico Fellini (the latter later presented in several European cities). Also noteworthy were the exhibition “Miró’s Last Dreams” and the original artistic intervention by Jan Fabre in the museum galleries, tellingly titled This Madness Is Fantastic.

During his presidency, the “Videominuto” festival was also established; the first expressive arts workshop supported by the regional health authority (ASL) was launched; the avant-garde theatre of Remondi and Caporossi was presented; and the first museum-based showcase of Cinico TV by Ciprì & Maresco was organised.

These initiatives and original projects reflect Alessandro Bertini’s enduring passion and commitment to the social and cultural fabric of the territory, and to an increasingly enlightened vision of art.
